Lineage

Jeff Schoder and Trey Newton have been fortunate to train alongside and learn from some of the most gifted martial artists in the world. Their journey in Chinese Kenpo began under the instruction of  Sifu Michael Abedin, who himself trained under the exceptional Kenpo practitioner Gary Swan. Mr. Swan was a direct student of the legendary Sigung Steven LaBounty. The Chinese Kenpo system they studied, originally taught by Ed Parker, places a strong emphasis on the Chinese Kung Fu influences that shaped its foundation, blending power, precision, and fluidity into a highly effective martial art.

Their training was further enriched by the guidance of Professor John Sepulveda, a direct student of Mr. Parker and one of the most respected authorities in Kenpo Karate. Professor Sepulveda, holding a 10th-degree black belt and bringing over 50 years of experience, has dedicated his life to the preservation and evolution of Kenpo. His knowledge and leadership have made him an enduring influence in the martial arts community, inspiring generations of practitioners.

Mr. Schroder and Mr. Newton also had the privilege of working with Sifu Russell Shores, a Grandmaster in Long Chi Quan Kung Fu and an expert in multiple martial arts styles. Sifu Shores brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge, skill, and insight, offering a unique perspective that blends traditional wisdom with modern application.

Over the years, Mr. Schoder and Mr. Newton have also trained with numerous renowned Kenpo masters, including Sibok Tom Kelly, Brian Duffy, Jeff Speakman, Bob White, and Dennis Conatser, among others. Each of these instructors brought unique experiences, perspectives, and techniques that further deepened their understanding of the system.

For serious students of Ed Parker’s Kenpo, it is essential to know these leaders and appreciate their invaluable contributions to the art. Through their dedication and teaching, the legacy of Kenpo continues to thrive, shaping the next generation of martial artists with the same passion, discipline, and respect that built its foundation.
